Our Story

Abinci Means
Food. We Mean It.

A Northern Nigerian food brand rooted in culture, community, and honest cooking — now making its way into the hearts (and bowls) of the UK.

From Hausa Kitchens
to British Streets

Abinci was born from a deep love of Hausa food and a frustration that Northern Nigerian cooking remained one of West Africa's best-kept secrets. We started with a single dish — Dambun Rice & Grilled Chicken — prepared exactly as it would be in a Hausa kitchen, and brought it to the people of Dundee through pop-up events.

"Abinci" is the Hausa word for food. It's simple, direct, and exactly what we are about. Not a brand identity layered on top of something ordinary — but honest food with a genuine story behind it.

Every ingredient is sourced with intention. Every portion is prepared fresh on the day. No shortcuts, no compromises. Just food built around real nutrition — food that earns its place in your diet, your lifestyle, and on your table.

Introducing the UK and the
world to Hausa cuisine.

Hausa cuisine is ancient, complex, and deeply nourishing — built on bold spices, wholesome grains, and the kind of slow, considered cooking that feeds entire communities. It deserves a global audience. We are here to build that.

Three Principles.
Every Bowl.

Authenticity

Every recipe is rooted in Hausa culinary tradition. We do not water down flavours or adapt them to what we think people expect African food to taste like. We serve it as it is.

Freshness

Everything is prepared on the day of each event. No pre-made sauces. No frozen shortcuts. We believe great food starts with great ingredients, and treats them with care at every stage.

Community

We are building something beyond a business. Every pop-up is an invitation — to try something unfamiliar, to start a conversation, to share a meal, and to understand a culture through its food.

Dambun Rice
& Grilled Chicken

Dambun Rice is a traditional Hausa dish from Northern Nigeria, made from finely milled rice steamed with a blend of aromatic spices, fresh peppers, and vegetables. The result is a light, fluffy, deeply fragrant base that carries its own character before a single spoonful of chicken is added.

Our chicken is slow-marinated in Hausa-spiced yaji seasoning and grilled to order. The combination is hearty, wholesome, and unlike anything else you will find on a UK high street.
